How Do We Stop Doing Wrong?
When you believe in Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are given a new life. All you need to do is accept that new life. Sound too easy?
"So you should consider yourselves dead to sin and able to live for the glory of God through Christ Jesus." (Romans 6:11 NLT)
We'll look for every way in the world not to believe that we have new life. We don't want to believe. We hold tight to our old habits. We love our old habits. In the words of the Bible, we present our bodies to sin.
"Do not let any part of your body become a tool of wickedness, to be used for sinning. Instead give yourselves completely to God since you have been given new life." (Romans 6:13 NLT)
The answer is to humble ourselves, realizing we can not do it ourselves, and we need to totally trust God who has made us a new person.
However, we remain in our earthly flesh, so our old sinful desires remain in us. We will remain sinners. But, through faith in God and the gift of new life He has given us, we can turn away from our sin. When we trust God, He works within us to turn us away from doing wrong and toward obeying Him. And each day we can move forward, allowing the Holy Spirit to progessively transform us to be more in the image of Christ Jesus.
