Making Disciples / Building Walls
In Matthew 28 Jesus tell Christians that we need to be "making disciples." But instead Christians are building walls.
What does it mean to "make disciples"? A disciple is someone who is interested in learning. A student. To make a disciple does not have to mean to convert someone to Christianity. It can mean to, as a start, lead them to become interested in learning about and following Christ. How do we do this? The key is that we lead by example, through our lifestyle -- what we say and do. If we are not walking the talk, we are just hypocrites and we'll be seen by non-Christians as hypocrites. And just by living the Christian lifestyle, we will make people interested in learning more about Jesus Christ.
Unfortunately, what Christians do is separate themselves from non-Christians. Within two years after a person believes in Christ and becomes a Christian, they have no non-Christian friends. It would be great news if the reason for this was that all of their friends had put their faith in Christ. But the truth is that the Christian has withdrawn from the secular world, abandoning their friends and relatives.
Christianity is not a religion. It is a relationship. But for most Christians it seems to be a selfish relationship limited to themselves, other Christians and God.
God loves the whole world. ALL CHRISTIANS need to love the world, and enter into a relationship with the world. Not to embrace worldly values, but so all the world can become disciples who are interested in learning more about Christ.
