What's More Important? Sports or God?

I walk to church every Sunday and this past Sunday noticed a sign on the corner announcing try-outs for Little League Baseball. This isn't unusual. Our church is located on a busy intersection and the corner by the traffic lights is often filled with signs promoting baseball, soccor and football sign-ups, as well as numeous garage sales.

I started thinking about the time, effort and money that goes into our kid's sports. What if the same amount of our time and effort went toward achieving God's purposes? After all, what's more important--three months of Little League, or how we spend eternity?

Sports are a good activity. They help our kids to learn, grow and develop. Sports are even good for our evangelistic efforts -- they provide an opportunity for us to establish relationships with people who have not accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior. So I'm not saying we need to do away with sports. What Christians need to do is become as enthusiastic about Christ as we are about sports.
