Gay Marriage - What Is God Doing?
"...and everyone did what they thought was right in their own eyes." Judges 21:25
It is only through God's grace that sin and Satan are restrained in the world. Evil is restrained and limited by God. God also has given us free will. We get what we choose -- here on earth and after we die. If we choose to turn away from God and disobey Him, if we choose to do what is right in our eyes, God allows us to do that. But in return He turns away from us, withdrawing some of His common grace (blessings). He does this because, by experiencing the consequences of our turning away from God, we learn what those consequences are.
The book of Judges describes this, and it applies to America today.
Look at American history. Our country has been greatly blessed by God. For example, in the Revolutionary War our founding fathers publicly recognized the miricles God performed that saved the Continental Army from defeat several times. From the Continental Army's escape from Long Island, to preserving George Washington's life, God was rescued us from our enemies.
But then what happened?
Here's what happened in Judges 8:34 "The Israelites forgot that the LORD was their God, and that he had rescued them from the enemies who lived around them."
America has forgotten that the LORD is our God. We call ourselves "Christian", but our behavior shows we are not. And those who truly are Christian isolate themselves instead of engaging our culture. In general, two years after someone accepts Christ, they have no non-Christian friends. Not because all of their friends have become Christians, but because they have changed who their friends are.
The Bible calls us to be active in spreading the Gospel. The great comission (Matthew 28) says "GO..."
So what is God doing with gay marriage? He is letting us have what we want. He is letting us have the consequences of our actions--the consequences of our not obeying God.
Are you doing the Great Commission? Are you making disciples today?
