The Son of God

How could Jesus be the Son of God?

The name "Son of God" is not used to identify Jesus as someone who was separate from God. It identifies Jesus' role--what he did. While on earth Jesus, through his actions and speech, demonstrated to us the type of relationship we have with God. It is a relationship like a son has with his father. That is why one of the descriptions used by Jesus is that he was the "Son of God."

Jesus is fully God. And Jesus was fully human. God came to earth for a short time and took on the characteristics and limitations of man.

But remember, God is omnipresent. That means that God is EVERYWHERE at all times. He didn't have to split himself, or create another person to come to earth as Jesus. He is everywhere. That is difficult for us limited humans to understand, but that is part of who God is. Since God is everywhere, he was the person we know as Jesus while Jesus was on earth and at the same time God was also still in heaven.
