Turn Off Your Television
It used to be that we took a break from our lives to attend something entertaining.
Now we take a break from being entertained so as to live our lives.
Television trains us, and more importantly our kids, to have short attention spans. What how rapidly images change on TV. Or better yet, stop watching.
Television trains us, and more importantly our kids, to value sex outside marriage, money, power and good looks. Is that really what's important? NO!
A book by a black professor (who has four degreees himself--but I didn't catch his name on the radio show I was listening to) gives us the black perspective in a new book. TV, as well as rap music, is destroying the lives of black kids. He said that while 70% of rap music is purchased by white kids, black kids are particularly harmed because the family/social climate they live in results in rap music and television serving as real-life role models.
Our culture is killing us!!!
Here's a basic scientific fact. If a system produces certain results, then that system must have been designed to produce those results--either intentionally or unintentionally. Look at the results our culture is producing. Our culture is a system that has been designed to produce those results. Through our actions or inactions, we are responsible for the design of our culture. EVERY ONE OF US, so don't blame it on someone else.
Isn't it about time we started changing?
