An Interesting Split

I've noticed in the news that when the polling results from the recent election are reported, evangelical Christians stand on one side and liberal Christians* and secularists stand together on the other side. It does not make sense that any Christian--based on their beliefs and lifetyle--should find themselves categorized together with those who have secular beliefs. The Bible says:

"Don't copy the behavior of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is." - Romans 12:2 (NLT)

It seems that maybe liberal churches have not been transformed by God, but instead embrace the values of the secular world.

*Liberal in this case does not mean politically liberal. Liberal, when applied to Christianity, means those who do not accept God's word as fully true and accurate.

Excellent use of Romans 12:2. Dan S. over at WithChrist.org also has an insightful blog entry (Nov. 12) on a similar subject. It's worth looking at.

You are full of more crap than a Christmas Turkey. Where do you think Jesus will weigh in on that?

Thank you for your comment Headless Lucy.

I think Jesus has weighted in on this. He said:

"If you love me, obey my commandments." - John 14:15

He then repeated it in John 14:21:

"Those who obey my commandments are the ones who love me."

And in case we didn't understand about obeying His commandments, He repeats the connection between obedience and love yet a third time in John 15:10

"When you obey me, you remain in my love."

You'd think three times was enough, but Jesus repeats this again a few moments later:

"You are my friends if you obey me." - John 15:14

This is something Jesus keep repeating. It's an important point. Love and obedience go together--you can't have one without the other.

The problem with liberal churches is that they have chosen the wisdom of the world (secular wisdom) over the wisdom of the Bible. Instead of paying attention to God's word given to us in scripture, they follow man's word of the world. Yes, liberal churches are filled with love, but it is not love for Jesus because that love is not accompanied with obedience. It is not love for the Word, because they twist the Word to fit today's culture and their own desires.
