What Is The Answer?

Mr. Steyn's opinion article in the Wall Street Journal (see my last post) points out that we may be heading toward a new dark ages as a result of demographic shifts in the world. Is there anything we can do to prevent this from happening?

Yes, but I don't think we'll do it.

As I've mentioned previously Dr. Ralph Winter has shown that God seems to work in 400 year cycles. If mankind has not obeyed God, then God takes action. God has basically told us to take the Gospel to all the world. However, mankind does not seem to be very good at understanding this. The result is that God steps in, about every 400 years, and either forces Christians out into the world, and thus speading the Gospel. Or He brings non-believers into the Christian world and spreads the Gospel. This usually happens during the first 150-200 years of the cycle.

What area of the world has Christianity not brought the Gospel message to? What large people group are we not bringing the Gospel message to? The answer in both cases is Muslims (and to some extend Hindus), and they live mostly within what is called the 10-40 window.

So what do we see happening, according to Mr. Styn's article? Believers in Islam coming into traditionally Christian parts of the world. This is one of the actions God has historically taken to get the Gospel message moving again.

But, some say, America has historically sent out more missionairies than had ever been sent before. That's right, but God does not look at what we've done and compare it with the past. God always askes, "Have you given your best?" God wants our best.

The problem is that we have not given our best. We (American Cristians) have given our leftovers. We're the richest country that has every existed, but spreading the Gospel isn't even on the economic radar. We spend much more time sitting on the couch watching mindless TV, than we do in obeying God by spreading the good news of the Gospel message.

We chose to ignore God. That only lasts so long... now the time has come when God will no longer allow us to ignore Him.
